SPEAC is a social justice-oriented student group of peer educators dedicated to raising awareness about sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking. Through peer education, SPEAC aims to advocate for survivors, inspire action within the UA student community, and challenge the culture and social structures that perpetuate sexual and relationship violence.

Applications for Fall 2018 peer educators are now open! Please direct completed applications and questions to Thea Cola (tcola@email.arizona.edu). Applications are due Friday, April 20, 2018.

The SPEAC interns facilitate five 90-minute presentations; details on each presentation can be found below:

Consent 101:

This presentation covers the topic of consent, what it is, what it looks like and what is the University of Arizona’s definition of consent. Additionally this presentation covers if consent can be given if alcohol is present, which can be quite a grey area. This presentation is recommended for student groups or organizations that would like an introduction to addressing sexual violence within their community.

Rape Culture:

This presentation covers the topic of Rape Culture. This presentation delves deeper into what is rape culture and what contributes to rape culture such as sexual objectification, sexual coercion, power and privilege and the spectrum of sexual violence. This presentation is recommended for student groups or organizations that are interested in creating tangible goals to disrupt rape culture.

Policies and Procedures:

This presentation covers University Title IX Policies and investigation procedures. This presentation addresses the difference between the university system and the criminal system. Additionally this presentation covers empathetic listening and what to do if someone you know tells you that they had been sexually assaulted. This presentation is recommended for student groups or organizations that would like to know how to help their fellow students navigate university procedure.

Bystander Intervention:

This presentation goes through the five decision making steps of being an active bystander in potentially problematic situations. This presentation is recommended for student groups or organizations that would like tangible steps on how to address sexual violence in interpersonal or group settings.

Creepy or Cute:

This interactive presentation addresses healthy relationships and what to do if you or someone you know may not be in a healthy relationship. This is an interactive presentation and is recommended for student groups or organizations that would like to have an event to facilitate discussion on healthy relationships.

If you would like to request a presentation for your student group or organization, please fill out the SPEAC Presentation Request form here.
